Moritz Weber on Chopin’s love letters to men

Add to calendar

About this event

Was Frédéric Chopin in love with men? The journalist and author Moritz Weber explores this question in his comprehensive study of the famous composer’s love life. Drawing on personal letters, historical sources and a reconstruction of homosexual life in the 19th century, he examines Chopin’s relationships with men, particularly with his close friend Tytus Sylwester Woyciechowski. In doing so, Weber demonstrates how earlier biographers and translations may have contributed to obscuring the composer’s same-sex feelings. The book launch offers new perspectives on Chopin’s private life and the way music history has dealt with homosexuality.
