In Plain Sight: New Queer History Research From Eastern Europe

The Hidden Queer History of Central and Eastern Europe

Add to calendar

About this event

How can queer lives be uncovered in historical sources? Dr Eszter Timár, Eugenia Seleznova and Barbara Trojanowska present the latest research findings on hitherto little-known queer life stories from Central and Eastern Europe. The focus is on lesbian women in Habsburg Galicia, the war diary of a Soviet partisan from the Stalin era, and traces of queerness in the memoirs of a Hungarian post-war star. The researchers provide insights into their work with historical newspapers, diaries and archives, and demonstrate how they have unearthing previously hidden stories. Andreas Brunner will moderate the event, which is expressly aimed at people without prior academic knowledge.
